BILBAO

Bilbao is a city of charisma and personality; traditional and avant-garde at once, – and host to one of the most exciting buildings in the world. Bilbao is easy to visit, with a cosmopolitan and gentle feel, and rich in cultural and gastronomical offerings. And it is also the door to a wide range of destinations due to its strategic location.

Living in Bilbao offers a wide range of options to do. On the one hand, it has an important and varied exhibition and performing arts calendar. And it is ideal for walking and for travelling with children – offering plenty of opportunities for socializing, shopping and playing sports. On the other, a beautiful countryside, whether the coast or mountain, is within easy reach. In addition, Bilbao is a well communicated point of entry to other parts of northern Spain and southwest France.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Bilbao offers a wide range of options, whether in the arts, culture or entertainment. In the last few years, Bilbao has become an important cultural reference, both within Spain and internationally. And although the Guggenheim Museum has certainly become its main attraction point, it is by no means the only museum worth a visit. The Museo de Bellas Artes, its many private galleries, and the near-by Oma Forest or Chillida-Leku justify a visit to this city in their own right. Also, the city is interesting from an architectural point of view, with works by some of the most prestigious contemporary architects.

Its many public spaces (squares, walks, and pedestrian streets) are an invitation to discover the city on foot. There is a busy cultural programme throughout the year in opera, classical music, theatre, dance, film and pop music festivals. The latest trends are present in the large number of shops – ranging from fashion shops and art galleries, to furniture and design shops, and sophisticated delicatessen. Special mention must go to the cultural and entertainment shows for all ages held during Carnival and Christmas.

There are many places near Bilbao that can make an ideal day or half-day trip. At the mouth of the Nervión river, we find the impressive Bizkaia transporter bridge, and the villages around the bay, full of history and interest.
