FINAL CUT PRO

1-Week Editing Workshop

Overview Workshop Goal

2007 Tuition: $1,000

Next Start Date at:

New York City Universal Studios

This intensive course is designed to fully immerse students in the technical craft of digital editing. Students can choose to learn on the new Final Cut Pro software

Final Cut Pro exploded onto the digital editing scene only a few short years ago, and has strongly established a foothold for itself among the world's premiere editing houses. The easy-to-use features make Final Cut Pro a wonderful tool for cutting digital video and film, and can be used by individuals to build their own home professional editing systems.

The New York Film Academy One-Week Digital Editing Workshop is an intensive one week course designed to familiarize students with all the skills necessary to be able to work with the software

Side by side with highly experienced, Apple-certified editing instructors, students edit professionally shot scenes, gaining invaluable experience through in-depth exploration of story structure, style and content approaches.

Overview

From day one, students learn the fundamentals of digital non-linear editing on the program of their choice, either Apple's Final Cut Pro. Students are trained on how to download DV footage and other sources into the computer, how to capture and log, assemble, cut, dissolve, trim, fine-cut audio, create titles and export their finished product. Students also edit professionally shot scenes, thereby gaining invaluable experience through in-depth exploration of story structure, style and content. At the end of the course, students will have one scene, which they edited themselves, on a high-quality digital tape.

Students enrolled in the One-Week Editing Workshop will have individual hands-on use of a Final Cut Pro editing system, installed on an Apple computer.

Workshop Goal

The One-Week Digital Editing Workshop was designed to serve the needs of different types of students. For students contemplating a longer-term education in editing or a career in the industry, it is an excellent introduction. This one-week course gives students the basic skills necessary to edit with the Final Cut Pro software.

All students enrolling in the One-Week Digital Editing Workshop should be aware that this is an introductory course. The limitations of a one-week course should be apparent, given that many people spend years studying editing and perfecting their craft. However, the course does provide students with more than enough knowledge to be able take raw footage and edit it into a coherent sequence or project.
