Preparation Format Topics Covered

All students enrolling in the Intensive One-Week Rigging Intensive Workshop should be aware that this is an introductory course. The limitation of a one-week course should be apparent, given that many people spend years studying and perfecting their craft.

PREPARATION

This is a technical class and students must have some prior Maya experience.

Previous rigging experience is necessary. Students should have a basic understanding of joint orientation, local vs. world rotation, and IK Handles If you don’t know what an IK Handle is, this is not the class for you.

Students will come away with a rigged character.

FORMAT

Students will use Maya’s rigging tools to create intermediate to advanced level rigs for a basic block model. Students will learn how to make foot rigs with multiple pivot points, IK/FK switches, stretchy joint chains, and how to use a low poly mesh to drive a high poly mesh. The trade offs and appropriate uses of “animation friendly” techniques vs. “realistic rigging” will be discussed. Deformation and weighting will not be discussed in this class.

ANIMATION TOPICS COVERED INCLUDE
• IK-FK Switches
• Stretchy Joints
• Shape input switches
• Floating Necks
• Adjustable Shoulders
• Advanced Foot Controls
