‘Angels’ Barred From Churches
June 19th, 2008 Posted in NewsVariety Magazine recently printed an article publicizing the Vatican’s negative stance on the prequel to the “Da Vinci Code” titled, “Angels and Demons.” Although the Vatican publicly denounced and even urged a boycott of the “Da Vinci Code” release in 2006 no effect was felt in the films revenue, earning $758 million worldwide.

This time the Vatican has to new lengths to interfere with the release of the newest film, “Angels and Demons.” According to Variety, last year when applying for permits to shoot key scenes from the movie on church property; director Ron Howard was denied due to the fact that “Under Italy’s treaty with the Vatican, both the Italian government and the Vatican must OK the permits, and the Vatican balked.”
Also taken from Variety article was a statement from Father Marco Fibbi, a spokesman for the Rome diosese saying, “We often provide our churches to productions whose purposes are compatible with religious sentiment”
What message do you think the Vatican is sending to the public? Do you think that Ron Howard is making the right decision by continuing to shoot “Angels and Demons”? Thoughts???
