DISNEY STUDIOS, FLORIDA
All workshops are solely owned and operated by the New York Film Academy and are not affiliated with Disney Studios.
Disney Studios®
In the summer of 2009, the New York Film Academy will return to Disney Studios in Florida to offer our intensive hands-on workshops.Students in the New York Film Academy program at Disney Studios will have the extraordinary experience of shooting their films on professional movie sets and realistic international environments. They will shoot on the Disney Studios lot with its fully dressed sets including Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, Chinatown, New York and London street sets.
Though they are shooting their films in Florida, students will find that they may set their films on a street in Paris complete with the Eiffel Tower and French cafés, then they can take a five-minute walk to Morroco or shoot in the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. These are among the eleven amazing international locations available for students’ productions at the EPCOT® Center.
Housing
The Academy has made arrangements for interested students to stay at the luxury hotel in nearby Celebration. Students are not required to reside at the hotel in order to attend the workshop.Instructors
As in our other locations, our eclectic faculty are experienced instructors and professional filmmakers who have Master of Fine Arts degrees from the most prestigious film programs in the United States. These include NYU, Columbia University, the University of Southern California, and UCLA.Enrollment
The New York Film Academy has an open enrollment. Serious students from all backgrounds are welcome to apply. No previous experience is required. However, all New York Film Academy Workshops are extremely intensive. Students who enroll should be prepared to live and breathe their work during these workshops. Given the nature of filmmaking and the necessity of working in crews, students must be willing to devote themselves not only to their own projects, but to their classmates’ projects as well.As space is limited, we recommend early application to guarantee a place in the workshop of your choice.
Daily Schedule
Productions take place at Epcot and the Studio backlot.
In preparation for daily shoots, classes will occur at Celebration Hotel and at Stetson University’s state of the art facilities across the street from our housing facility.
Every workshop is full-time, with classes or shooting organized nearly every day of the week. The schedules are rigorous; however, students will have the opportunity to enjoy Disney and its environs.
Shoots will take place nearly every day in the early morning at Disney Studios and at EPCOT.
Equipment
Students in the Filmmaking Workshops shoot 16mm film with Arriflex-S cameras and portable Lowel lighting packages for every shoot. Students in the Digital Filmmaking Workshops shoot on digital video. All students edit digitally using Final Cut Pro on Macintosh computers. The equipment our Film Academy students use is comparable to that of the leading degree programs in the United States.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Although the schedules of all the workshops are demanding, time is set aside for students to take advantage of the incredible array of amusement opportunities unique to Central Florida.Final Screening & Portfolio
At the end of the course students will have a final screening open to actors, friends, and family. They will receive a diploma and a digital master tape of their work. The Academy recognizes that all students are unique and want to express themselves through their own visions. Whether students are interested in narrative, documentary, experimental, or music video, our faculty will do everything possible to nurture and mentor these future filmmakers.
